Deal with the Devil - Prologue
It all started when my Father has injured at work, it didn’t look good. My Mother prayed and prayed and prayed but to no avail. Until one day she tried something different. She read up about satanic ceremonies and decided to give it ago. She lit the candles, closed her eyes and chanted the words. She chanted for what seems like forever, and finally she gave up. Sat back and opened her eyes. Before her was a man in a suit with burning red eyes. He was leaning onto a wall that wasn’t there.
“You really should chant with your eyes open, I’ve been stood here for 5 minutes.”
My Mother repelled backwards in fear, “Are you the devil?”
“Yes, I’m the devil. Now let’s cut to the chase, what can I do for you?” he asked.
“Please you’ve got to save my husband, I’ll do anything,” she replied.
“Anything?”
“Yes, anything.”
“Alright, I’ll save him…” he stopped leaning on his invisible wall.
“Thank you. Thank you so much.”
“…But, you must do something for me. You will have six daughters. Once they have all come of age, I will return, and one of them will become my bride. Do we have a deal?”
Stunned, my Mother didn’t know how to reply. From behind his back the devil produced a sand timer that was quickly running out.
“Hurry now. Your husband doesn’t have long left.”
The devil out stretched a hand.
“Tick tock.”
My Mother, panic in her eyes, trying to decide quickly. The last few grains left, she grasped the devils hand. The sand moved back from the bottom to the top again.
“You made a wise decision,” The devil pulled out a set of aviator shades and put them on.
“Now I’d love to stay and chat, but I have coffee appointment with old grimy. See you in a few decades.”
A spiralling portal opened beneath him and he was sucked in.
My Mother just sat there stunned at the events of the past minute.
Back to present my Father made a speedy recovery, gave my Mother six children and then had an affair with his tennis instructor and left. Odd thing is. My Mother only gave birth to sons and not daughters. My Mother thought she’d gotten out of the deal, until that fateful day.
Barry, Mike, Phil, Tim, Peter and I had no idea what we were in for...
